Random Act of Kindness Day®
Since 2008, Random Act of Kindness Day® has brought Kitchener-Waterloo and other Canadian communities together by engaging citizens in small acts of kindness and generosity.
The message is simple: do something nice for someone and ask nothing in return other than they do something nice for someone else. Part of the beauty of the initiative is that it doesn't have to cost a cent.Holding a door open, worlds of thanks and encouragement, telling someone they've done a good job- these are the kinds of acts that citizens 'pay forward' on this special day.
As the creators of Random Act of Kindness Day®, the KWCF, has brought this message of kindness and empathy to others. Schools, businesses, religious sects, retailers, membership organizations, and individuals have created unique and innovative ways in which to connect with their fellow citizens.
The KWCF has high hopes that Random Act of Kindness Day® will grow to become a national kindness celebration. After its first year in Kitchener-Waterloo and area, other communitities started Random Act of Kindness Day® in their respective cities and towns.
In 2011, 25 other communities joined in RAKD celebrations including Banff, Alberta

The Tema Conter Memorial Trust- Because Heroes are Human.
Emergency services and military personnel witness traumatic events as part of their daily routine. Yet they continue to perform their essential duty of saving lives- often in the face of unspeakable tragedy. So unspeakable, in fact, that many of these heroic individuals struggle quietly with the physical, psychological and emotional effects of their jobs.
The Tema Conter Memorial Trust was established to end the silence and ease the suffering. The charity was founded by Mr. Vince Savoia, an attending paramedic at the murder scene of Tema Conter in 1988. Upon coping with post-traumatic stress as a result of this horrible episode, Mr. Savoia created the Tema Conter Memorial Trust.
The trusts purpose is two-fold: to honour the memory of Ms. Tema Conter and call attention to the psychological trauma encountered by emergency service and military personnel. These courageous and compassionate individuals are haunted by the scenes they encounter on a regular basis, and they need our help. Learn more at: www.tema.ca
