The 2012 International Essay Contest on
Interprofessionalism
Ever wanted to share a great experience working with other health care professionals and providers? Excited to convey how teamwork can be practiced in a clinical setting?
The National Health Sciences Students' Association (NaHSSA) and the Journal of Interprofessional Care (JIC) are pleased to announce the call for the 2012 International Essay Contest on Interprofessionalism. We invite you to share your thoughts with us!
Awards
Winner: $250 cash prize and essay publication in the JIC and essay featured on the NaHSSA website.
Runner-Up: $100 cash prize and essay featured on the NaHSSA website.
Essay:
Each participating student is required to submit a 1000 word (maximum) essay on the following topics:
Have you ever witnessed or been a part of healthcare professionals working together towards a common goal?
Outline your experience and position it within the relevant interprofessional literature to discuss how this interprofessional collaboration experience impacted the patient. Furthermore provide your perspective of what you learned from this (good or bad) experience.
Discussion may also include various background topics about interprofessionalism, what are some of the potential interprofessional issues and any other relevant material to clearly convey your insights and thoughts.
Please also note that competitive essays should display high level of thinking, strong personal examples, along with support through relevant interprofessional literature.
Essays should be in accord with the house style for the JIC (APA Format) and submitted to vpacademic@nahssa.ca Please include last and first name in the title line.
Please also include your full name, program of study, and school name along with your essay upon submission.
Adjudication
A panel of judges selected and approved by the NaHSSA and JIC will judge entries according to the following criteria: substance and originality, clarity and composition, and adherence to contest guidelines. The winning authors will be contacted via email.
Eligible Entrants
- Full time or Part time students
- Enrolled in Undergraduate or Graduate studies at a College or University
- Pursuing a degree in health sciences or affiliated programs.
Deadline for submission:
March 20th, 2012 (22:00:00 EDT). Please note that this is the final deadline and no late applications will be considered.
